US law enforcement agencies do not have the information that Russian nationals could have been among victims of the Orlando shooting at Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, the press attache of the Russian embassy in Washington said.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — According to Melnik, Russian diplomatic mission in Washington is in charge of consular support for Russian nationals in Florida.

"We contacted the US law enforcement agencies in Florida. They do not have such information," Yury Melnik told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

On Sunday, US national Omar Saddiqui Mateen killed 50 people and injured 53 at Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando. The Orlando massacre has become the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States, surpassing the death toll from the 2007 incident at Virginia Tech, which claimed 32 lives.

According to US media, Mateen, who was killed by the police at the scene of events, could have had links to radical Islamist groups. This information is currently being checked by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.
