ASTANA (Sputnik) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko called Tuesday for strengthening the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) to boost dialogue with the European Union and China.

"Everything I said before is necessary for carrying out dialogue with foreign partners. In order to do that we should form our own developed common market, we should be strong ourselves, strengthen our union – then it will be easier for us to hold dialogue with the European Union and the People's Republic of China," Lukashenko said.

Equal economic conditions for the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states have not been created while the internal trade volume is decreasing, Lukashenko said.

"Equal economic conditions for the EEU member states and barrier-free environment still are not created. In addition, after signing the treaty [founding the EEU] our internal trade volume has only decreased," Lukashenko said at the EEU Supreme Council Meeting.

He said that not all provisions of the EEU treaty are corresponding to the modern situation and expectations of the member states.

He also called to get rid of economic barriers adding that their number did not change despite building new forms of economic cooperation.

The Russia-led EEU, in existence since January 2015, provides for the free movement of goods, services, capital and labor among its five member states.
