Threat of Global Terrorism Unstoppable if West and Russia Don't Cooperate

It's almost impossible for the West to resolve any international crises without Russian involvement, including the current threat of global terror, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vladimir Safronkov told Sputnik.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The West understands the importance of maintaining a dialogue with Russia as it is impossible to overcome many international problems without it, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vladimir Safronkov told Sputnik.

"Western partners understand the necessity to stay in dialogue with Russia, they are aware that without Russia it’s impossible to overcome many hotspots… in international relations," Safronkov said.

According to the official, the global threat of terrorism is very viable. He reminded of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech at the UN General Assembly in September, where he called on the international community to create a united anti-terrorist front based on international law and acting under UN auspices.

"In this context we have to consolidate our efforts it’s exactly what … President Putin spoke about from the podium of [the] General Assembly saying that it’s exactly the moment when we have to consolidate our efforts in order to win this global threat, threat of terrorism," Safronkov added.

Russia’s relations with the West have deteriorated since Crimea became part of the country in 2014 and the escalation of the crisis in eastern Ukraine. The United States and the EU member states have blamed Moscow for interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs, claims Russia has repeatedly denied.
