Moscow does not see any political context in the plans of Russia's agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor to impose a ban on imports of Turkish fruits and vegetables, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Rosselkhoznadzor head Sergei Dankvert said that the watchdog planned on May 16 to impose ban on imports of Turkish vegetable marrows, lemons and grapefruits — all that is left in the allowed list — due to the systematic violations of sanitary requirements.

"You should ask Rosselkhoznadzor about it. Rosselkhoznadzor is not engaged in politics, Rosselkhoznadzor is engaged in its specific issues, that is why you should ask them about it," Peskov told journalists answering a question whether the reports were connected with worsening the situation in the Russia-Turkey relations or quarantine.

Not Charging Su-24 Pilot's Killer 'Bad' for Turkey-Russia Reconciliation
Russian-Turkish relations deteriorated following the downing of the Russian Su-24 bomber by a Turkish F-16 fighter over Syria on November 24, 2015. Moscow imposed a number of restrictive economic measures against Turkey in response to what Russian President Vladimir Putin classified a "stab in the back."

Russia's retaliatory measures against Ankara include, in particular, restrictions on the activities of Turkish organizations in Russia, prohibiting Russian employers from hiring Turkish citizens and a ban on certain food imports, including oranges, tangerines, tomatoes, apples, peaches, strawberries and most of poultry products.
