The Latvian Foreign Ministry summonned the Russian Ambassador to Riga over his statements in the media about Latvia and other Western states "demonizing" Russia intentionally, a Latvian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

RIGA (Sputnik) — Earlier on Wednesday, Russia’s Ambassador to Latvia Alexander Veshnyakov said in an interview with the newspaper Vesti Segodnya that Latvia and a number of other Western countries deliberately "demonized" Russia.

"The ambassador has been invited to the Foreign Ministry for May 12," Raimonds Jansons told reporters.

West Uses Blatant Propaganda to 'Demonize' Russia Intentionally

Since 2014, Russia’s relations with the West have deteriorated over Crimea's reunification with Russia and the crisis in eastern Ukraine. The United States and the EU member states have blamed Moscow for allegedly interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs, claims Russia repeatedly denied.

In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called to stop anti-Russia propaganda in Western media in a conversation with his US counterpart John Kerry.
