BEIJING (Sputnik) — On Monday, North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party officially reappointed Kim as its chairman at the seventh party congress in Pyongyang.
Xi congratulated the North Korean leader on behalf of the ruling Communist Party of China, China's Xinhua News Agency said. Beijing stressed that the traditional friendship between the two countries was "a treasure of both sides."
The Workers' Party first congress in 36 years was held in Pyongyang between May 6 and 9.
A parade and a mass meeting marking the end of the congress took place in the North Korean capital in the presence of the country's leader earlier on Tuesday, according to media reports.
