US unity with G7 and EU partners remains critical to Washington’s approach to Russia in the wake of a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US Department of State spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, Putin and Abe discussed an array of bilateral and international issues at a rare meeting in the southern Russian city of Sochi.

"Continued unity among our partners including the European Union and the G7 remain vital in our approach to Russia," Trudeau stated when asked to comment on Putin’s meeting with Abe.
