Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has confirmed he will not be running for the chairmanship of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) at the upcoming May 22 convention.

Turkish PM Davutoglu Could Announce Resignation Thursday
ANKARA (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day it was reported that Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu could announce his resignation on Thursday.

Turkish media have previously circulated information the the prime minister would announce resignation amid tensions with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“At the extraordinary convention on May 22, I will not be running for the chairmanship of the party. This is necessary for the unity of the party,” Davutoglu said during a briefing in Ankara.
