BERLIN (Sputnik) — The latest round of the Syria peace talks started on April 13. The Saudi-backed HNC put its participation in the talks on hold on April 18, citing the recent violations of the ceasefire and the deteriorating situation with humanitarian aid access in the country.
"We do not see any possibility for a political solution as long as Bashar Assad is in power," Riyad Hijab told journalists ahead of a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.
According to the coordinator, after three rounds of talks the Syrian leadership "completely rejects the idea of a transitional government" backed by the opposition, while the latter "rejects the idea of a national unity government" proposed by the Syrian government delegation to the proximity talks.
