The United States is fully aware that Turkey could further destabilize the situation in conflict-torn Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Ankara was ready to send ground troops to Syria if necessary.

"I think it [the United States] is fully aware," the Russian top diplomat said answering a question how seriously the United States treated Turkey as a party able to destabilize the situation in Syria.

In April, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ankara's role on the Syrian-Turkish border was "absolutely destructive."

A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. It does not apply to terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front.
