MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ISSG was formed in November 2015, shortly after the beginning of the Syria peace talks in Vienna, as a panel of countries seeking to end bloodshed in Syria. It is co-chaired by Moscow and Washington. Other members are the European Union, the Arab League, China, Iran, Turkey, and the United Nations.
"It is likely that within the coming weeks, it will be possible to convene a ministerial meeting with one major goal, which is to see who is implementing previous decisions approved by two UN Security Council resolutions and how. This is a roadmap that covers three directions, which include a ceasefire, humanitarian aid and a political process," Lavrov said.
The attempts by various groups to disrupt the ceasefire will be discussed at the level of the support group, which includes a number of countries and international organizations, including Russia, China, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the Arab League, he added, stressing that this will be a step forward from discussing the issue on a US-Russian bilateral level.
