The Turkish government can commit more resources to the campaign against Daesh terrorist group, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said in a Senate committee hearing on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US defense secretary noted, however, that Ankara has started to do more along the border with Syria.

"I have wanted them [Turkey] to do more for some time," Carter stated. "They can make a larger contribution."

For months, Turkey's southern districts have been subjected to shelling from the territories in Syria that are occupied by Daesh militants.
