North Korea Ready to Halt Nuclear Tests If US Stops Drills With South Korea
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — France called on the European Union on Saturday to adopt new unilateral sanctions against North Korea after it apparently tested a ballistic missile off the eastern coast.

"France urges, in particular, that the European Union adopt additional autonomous sanctions," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The South Korean military said earlier it detected a North Korean submarine fire a ballistic missile off the eastern shore, in what would be the most recent violation of UN and EU restrictions on Pyongyang.

Paris urged a "strong and united approach" to North Korea from the international community to make Pyongyang abandon its nuclear and ballistic program, which the North says is a deterrent against a possible US invasion.
