The United States will help Egypt overcome the significant economic and security challenges it is currently facing, US Secretary of State John Kerry said after meeting with Egypt’s president on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — John Kerry met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo ahead of a regional meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

"I will come back [to Cairo] with additional thoughts about ways in which we can work together to invigorate the economy, to attract investment, to create jobs, and also ways that we can work together in order to deal with Daesh particularly and to help Egypt in terms of the security concerns that it has today," Kerry stated.

The state secretary emphasized that the United States views Egypt as "critical to the peace and security of the entire region," and is "deeply committed" to the country’s stability.

In 2015, Kerry delivered an address to the Egypt Economic Development Conference in the resort town of Sharm el Sheikh, where he encouraged US and foreign businesses to invest in Egypt.
