The Ukrainian Justice Ministry will send within two days a request to Moscow for the repatriation of Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko, who has been sentenced to a long prison term in Russia, Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko said Tuesday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Savchenko, 34, was sentenced in late March to a 22-year jail term in Russia for her part in killing Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine, and refused to appeal the ruling, but Ukrainian authorities have been trying to organize her possible exchange for detained Russian nationals.

"We will submit relevant documents, I think within two days. At this point we have decided to let diplomats to work with the other side [Russia] in order to set up the algorithm and guarantees of a timeline for Savchenko's repatriation to Ukraine," Petrenko told reporters following an inter-ministerial high-level meting on Savchenko's return to Ukraine.
