WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama spoke over the telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the crisis in Syria and Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing on Monday.
"President Obama had a conversation with president Putin today," Earnest stated. "The two leaders… spend a lot of time focused on the situation in Ukraine, there also was rather intense discussion around the situation in Syria."
However, the two presidents did not discuss the flyover of a US warship in the Baltic Sea by Russian jets, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said.
"That did not come up in the call between the two presidents," Josh Earnest stated. "We have ample opportunities to express our concerns about these kinds of provocative actions to the Russians, and it did not necessitate a presidential-level conversation."
