The Palestinian authorities have prepared a number of alternatives in case the UN resolution condemning Israeli settlement activities on the occupied territory will be vetoed, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Maliki told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier, the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, stated the need to immediately approve the UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.

“We don’t want to get ahead of the events…If [the resolution] fails, we have alternative variants that we cannot expose yet,” Maliki said.

Maliki said that the United States was poised to veto the resolution in the UN Security Council.

“We already knew ahead of time that our efforts in the Security Council would be met with opposition by the United States, which will veto it, but this should not stop us from trying to present this resolution,” Maliki said.
