US Secretary of State John Kerry said he discussed the resumption of the Syrian peace talks in Geneva with UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura during a phone conversation on Wednesday, when both officials urged all sides to adhere to the ceasefire.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Kerry added that there is an opportunity in the days ahead to negotiate a political transition in Syria, so all combatants should allow de Mistura and his team to do their work.

"I talked to Staffen de Mistura today, from Geneva, and we talked about the reconvening of the peace talks at this particular moment," Kerry stated during a press briefing in Washington. "We urge all participants… to adhere to the cessation of hostilities in Syria."
