The Russian foreign minister said the Ukrainian crisis should not be discussed in the framework of the G7 group.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Discussing the crisis in Ukraine in the framework of the G7 would be inexpedient, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.

"The G7 is not the right mechanism to serve as a platform to discuss the Ukrainian crisis. The Ukrainian crisis should be discussed and solved based on the February 2015 Minsk agreements," Lavrov said in an interview with Chinese, Japanese and Mongolian media.

In February 2015, Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine worked out a ceasefire deal in Minsk later signed by Kiev and the Donbass independence supporters, who had rejected to recognize the new coup-imposed Ukrainian government. Despite the fact that the agreement was reached a year ago, both sides have been repeatedly reporting violations of the deal.
