MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia is preparing to welcome Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas who are both due in Moscow for talks, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"Preparations are underway for this kind of visits, though we cannot tell you the exact dates. But preparations are actually ongoing," Peskov replied after he was asked by journalists whether he could confirm the reports about Abbas’ and Netanyahu’s upcoming visits to Russia.
Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told Sputnik last week that Abbas was scheduled to arrive in Russia on April 17 to meet with President Vladimir Putin the following day.
The Russian and Palestinian leaders are expected to discuss Russia’s possible role in efforts to revive the stalled negotiations between Israel and Palestine after they collapsed in 2014.
