EU-US Visa Reciprocity Review Not to Immediately Impact Travellers
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Canada is committed to expanding its visa-free regime for all EU member states as soon as possible, Canada’s department on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship spokesperson Remi Lariviere told Sputnik on Friday.

"Canada remains committed to extending visa-free travel to all Europeans as soon as possible," Lariviere stated. "Canadian officials in Ottawa and Brussels have and continue to be heavily engaged in a very positive, ongoing dialogue with Romania, Bulgaria and the European Commission on this issue."

Lariviere also said that possible introduction of visa requirements by the European Union for Canada would be counterproductive.

“It would be counterproductive to impose a visa on Canada considering our close bilateral relationship,” Lariviere stated.

Earlier on Friday, spokeswoman for the European Commission (EC) Mina Andreeva announced that the EC would hold a discussion on April 12 on the possibility of introducing a visa regime with the United States and Canada.
