BAKU (Sputnik) – Trilateral meetings of the Azerbaijani, Russian and Iranian officials at the level of heads of state and foreign ministers indicate that multilateral cooperation would be further developed in the future, the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan said Thursday.
"These meetings, undoubtedly, have an utmost importance. It’s a new page in the history of relations in the region. I remember my recent visit to Iran and discussions with my Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, and recently we have had a telephone conversation. All this suggests that there are prospects for cooperation between our countries," Ilham Aliyev said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Iranian and Azerbaijani counterparts, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Elmar Mammadyarov, respectively.
