French lawmakers discussed the Syrian and Ukrainian conflicts, Turkey and Nagorno-Karabakh with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during their visit to Moscow on Monday, a member of the delegation told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — Bizet added that Lavrov and the senators also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict but the issue was not the main subject at the talks.

On Saturday, Armenia and Azerbaijan noted a sharp escalation of the situation in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh area, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire that has been in place since 1994.

"That was Syria, problem of Turkey and Ukraine," Senator Jean Bizet, the chairman of the European Affairs Committee, said commenting on the main topics of the discussion.

Violence in the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic escalated on Friday night, with Baku and Yerevan accusing each other of provoking the hostilities.
