MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Amano's meeting with leaders and diplomats from the United States, Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom plus Germany took place earlier in the day on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit being held between March 31 and April 1 in Washington, DC.
"Iran is now subject to the strongest nuclear verification regime in the world. It is implementing not just its safeguards agreement with the Agency, but also its Additional Protocol. Transparency measures which go beyond Iran’s obligations under its formal agreements with the IAEA have also been agreed," Amano said in a statement following a meeting with representatives of the P5+1 group.
The process of JCPOA implementing will take many years, Amano added, stressing the need for continued support from the international community and funding for the IAEA's work in Iran.
In July 2015, Tehran and the P5+1 group's international mediators, reached a historic deal on Iranian nuclear program, which guarantees the peaceful nature of its nuclear program in exchange for the termination of anti-Iran sanctions, in particular in the energy sector. In mid-January, an IAEA report verified Tehran’s compliance with the agreement. In January, Amano presented the report, stating that the IAEA found no evidence of nuclear weapons development in Iran since 2009.
