On Wednesday, Hammond accused Russia of allegedly ignoring the norms of international conduct and breaking the rules of the international system.

"The statement made by Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond that 'Russia represents a challenge and a threat to all of us' along with his previous statements cannot but cause regret. We cannot accept [these] affirmations," the statement reads.

The Russian Embassy also criticized London for not paying proper attention to the crises in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen, where the existing system of international relations is in fact being repeatedly violated.
