Cuban President Raul Castro said that the United States and Cuba can coexist and cooperate in a civilized manner and for mutual benefit, regardless of existing and future differences.

HAVANNA (Sputnik) — The United States and Cuba have the ability to coexist in a cooperative and civilized manner despite their disagreements, Cuban President Raul Castro said alongside President Barack Obama at a press briefing on Monday.

"Both countries can coexist and cooperate in a civilized manner and for… mutual benefit, regardless of existing and future differences," Castro stated.

Raul Castro also said that the US government should do more to lift the trade embargo against Cuba because efforts to remove it have so far fallen short.

"We recognize the position of president Obama and his administration against the blockade, and his repeated appeals to Congress to have it removed," Castro said. "The most reasoned measures adopted by his administration are positive but insufficient."
