Bashar Jaafari, the head of the Syrian government delegation, said that Damascus wants to engage with the widest opposition at the intra-Syrian talks.

GENEVA (Sputnik) – Damascus would like to deal with the widest possible representation of opposition at the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, the head of the Syrian government delegation, said Monday.

"We don't know still who is the official [opposition] delegation… We want to engage with the widest opposition," Bashar Jaafari told reporters after meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

"We are the only delegation that submitted to the special envoy an official document — basic elements of the political process. We haven't yet got any answer to that document," he added.

The intra-Syrian talks to settle the five-year civil war in Syria resumed in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 14. Two days after the start of the talks, Jaafari told Sputnik that the Syrian government's delegation was ready to discuss the opposition's proposals on the political settlement of the crisis once they work out a joint view.
