The United States called on the Saudi Arabian-led coalition to conduct an open probe into the report of significant civilian casualties resulting from an airstrike on a market in northern Yemen, US Department of State spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, UN officials condemned the Saudi-led coalition for airstrikes that killed more than 100 people at a market in northern Yemen.

"We encourage them [Saudi-led coalition] to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation and publicly release the results," Kirby stated.

Kirby deferred to Saudi authorities when asked if the United States was concerned about the manner in which the coalition was conducting air operations.
