WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama is scheduled to travel to the island nation on March 21-22 in what will become the first visit by a US president to Cuba in nearly 90 years.
"The list of people invited to meet the president in Cuba is non-negotiable," Earnest said. "The White House and the president will be determining who he meets with."
Earnest went on that he would not be surprised if there were people on that list who the Cuban government would prefer Obama not to meet. He added that the president plans to discuss human rights issues in Havana.
Obama is expected to meet on Monday with Cuban President Raul Castro to discuss a range of issues, including progress on restoring diplomatic ties and commercial opportunities between the United States and Cuba.
Obama is also scheduled to meet with Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega, dissidents and entrepreneurs before traveling to Argentina on Tuesday.
