MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Swiss city of Geneva is currently hosting proximity talks between the opposition and the Syrian government. The talks are expected to last until March 24.

"The round of talks that we have just had was useful. It focused on fundamental elements for political solution for Syria, that is the paper that we submitted (to De Mistura) last time. We believe it will pave the way for a serious dialogue without external interference or any preconditions," Jaafari told reporters after a meeting with de Mistura.

Earlier in the day a source told Sputnik that the current round of the Syrian peace talks will conclude on March 24 with a working paper in which UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will ask delegations to clarify their positions on the main issues related to a political transition.
