    UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura called the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw Russian military from Syria "significant development."

    GENEVA (Sputnik) — UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura hopes that Russia’s decision to withdraw its military from Syria will give an impetus to the new round of the intra-Syrian talks that started on Monday in Geneva.

    "The announcement by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin on the very day of the beginning of this round of intra-Syrian talks is a significant development, which we hope will have a positive impact on the progress of negotiations aimed at a political solution, " de Mistura said in a statement.
