The Ukrainian Interior Ministry strongly condemns the attacks on Russian diplomatic missions in the country and calls on Ukrainians to refrain from provocative actions, its press service said Friday.

KIEV (Sputnik) – Earlier this week, Russia’s diplomatic missions in several Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, Lviv, Odessa and Kharkiv, were attacked by protesters calling for release of Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko, who is on trial in Russia for the murder of two Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine.

"In relations to cases of acts of vandalism in relation to the property of the diplomatic and consular agencies of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry strongly condemns such actions and stresses the responsibility of the persons involved in this in accordance with the laws of our state," the statement read.

The ministry reminded that protection of diplomatic and consular agencies was Ukraine’s international obligation.

"We are calling on the Ukrainian community to refrain from actions which are provocative in nature, and express its civic position exclusively by peaceful means, within the framework of current legislation of Ukraine," the statement added.
