"Lavrov drew attention to the need to end the US-fueled deliberate media anti-Russian campaign in the West, which by no means facilitates engagement in areas presenting a common interest," the Foreign Ministry's press release reads.
Lavrov and Kerry had a phone conversation earlier on Thursday at Kerry's initiative. The settlement of the Syrian and Yemeni conflicts were discussed among other issues, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Russia's Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that Russia was misrepresented in some foreign media reports. In late February, Lavrov stated that an unprecedented media campaign against Russian is in full sway across the world.
Certain foreign media outlets deliberately distort information regarding the Russian counter-terrorist aerial campaign in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously said. Russia has been accused of using its Syrian campaign to further Russian interests in the region, as well as conducting airstrikes against moderate Syrian opposition groups instead of extremist groups, she added.
In early March, Lavrov stated that European media reports emerged of Russia's alleged complicity in aggravating the migration crisis sweeping over the European Union.
Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in 2014 over Crimea's reunification with Russia and Moscow's alleged role in the crisis in eastern Ukraine.
