Russian Ambassador to the UN said the US has accommodated some of Russia's concerns on the resolution aimed at imposing new sanctions against North Korea.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The United States’  delegation has accommodated some of Russia's concerns on the US-drafted resolution to impose new sanctions on North Korea, Vitaly Churkin told reporters on Tuesday.

“We discussed them [Russian concerns] with the US delegation, I think they accommodated some of our concerns,” Churkin told reporters. “Have they accommodated all of our concerns? Not entirely. But you know, we are working for consensus of course. You never get everything you want.”

Earlier in the day, the vote on the UN Security Council draft resolution introducing tougher sanctions against North Korea was postponed until Wednesday at the Russian request.

“It's a resolution that is necessary, which the Security Council need to adopt because of certain challenges coming from DRPK [the Democratic People's Republic of Korea]. So we'll see what happens tomorrow,” Churkin added.

In January, Pyongyang conducted its fourth nuclear test, and launched a ballistic missile in February in violation of the Security Council resolutions.

On Tuesday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon thanked Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the constructive and important role that Russia plays vis-a-vis the DPRK and the Korean peninsula.
