MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia urges the United States to consult with Syrian rebel groups it supports while Moscow conducts talks with leadership in Damascus, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

"Russia, in the framework of the Aerospace Forces’ operation in Syrian airspace, is in regular contact with the legitimate leadership of the country," Peskov told reporters.

"In this case, I would like to once again refer to what was said by President Putin, who stressed that Russia will conduct the necessary work with Damascus and Syria's legitimate leadership, and that Russia counts on the United States to do the same with their allies," he added.

Moscow and Washington, co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), have reached a deal requiring Syrian government and rebel forces to commit to a ceasefire as of 22:00 GMT February 26.
