Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Moscow was not trying to play the role of the head of the world in any way, as no country in the world can lay the weight of global problems solely on its shoulders.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Western countries try to present Russia as a "second-rate country" of regional significance instead of treating Moscow as an equal partner, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told Sputnik in an interview.

"I presume that many may not like our position. That is normal. What’s most important is that we have one. Unfortunately, our western colleagues cannot get used to this, and instead of building relations with Russia like an equal partner with its own, quite justified for a large country geopolitical and economic interests, they are trying to present us as a 'second-rate country,' or a 'regional' power at best," Medvedev said.

The prime minister stressed that Moscow was not trying to play the role of the head of the world in any way, as no country in the world can lay the weight of global problems solely on its shoulders.

"But Russia must occupy its rightful place in the world order and have equal relations with other countries. This has been predetermined by our history, and our size, and our participation in large global organizations, primarily being one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. And simply because we are a large military and the largest nuclear power," he added.

Medvedev expressed hope that after Russian delegation's speeches at the Munich Security Conference, the Western partners would discuss what was actually said instead of what many would like to hear from an "aggressive" and "unpredictable" Russia.

The three-day Munich Security Conference focusing on conflict prevention is set to begin on Friday.

I would like to speak to Mr Medveded.

As I have lived over 30 years in West I can simply tell that the attitude and metality in West towards Russians is SHIT.

Look at Poles, who are basically selling their ass to get recognized as Europeans are still seened like second class citizents.

This is rooted way long back with übermensche in Germany and Superior Brits etc etc. All the Germanic countries got hybris and I who lived among them won't believe in equal trustship and human values.

How nice of Mr Medveded to believe it's possible to see Slavs and Rus as equals in Europe. (Napopleon, Karl XII, Hitler,Ottomans).

[The Western countries try to present Russia as a "second-rate country" of regional significance instead of treating Moscow as an equal partner]

That isn't based on facts, but it is a negotiating tactic. 90% of things in the US media is a psychological lie, even if it appears factually true. They assume, that if they treat Russia as an equal partner, that they are giving something up, or surrendering somehow. They only want to negotiate from a position of strength. I'm sure you already know this, but please don't think this is anything more than a tactic, and there is no truth in anything the US media says about Russia at all. 1/2 of them don't know better, and the other half, don't care, and engage in purposeful deceit.

if ''superiority" -- as in better behaving...with greater strength and endurance through great challenges -- amazing originality ,resourcefulness. value system, sincerity, sense of justice and fairness, loyalty , richness of culture, deep connection with the land and nature, scientific genius, engineering marvels and boldness..heck -- the russians leave all of europe and the west in the dust.

europeans and west and americans are just JEALOUS AND ENVIOUS that russians possess qualities as a people - and with a great land that fits their qualities - have so many more attributes that the europeans themselves can not even stand up to ...

the westerners are just ENVIOUS. that's what it is really about. envious that the russian people CAN stand on their own without being dictated to by anyone - and that their land is richer and far, far bigger than europe or even as big as both canada and usa.

it's jealousy, envy and bitterness that the west can't HAVE what russians possess - in both national character and territorial riches.

the europeans and westerners - including americans -- are SMALL-MINDED people compared to the russians.

their countries and national territories are like DWARVES compared to russia -
and so are their mentalities .

it's like comparing a dwarf and a giant. with the dwarf jealous of the size and stature of the giant..
