Italy Backs Down Over Money for EU-Turkey Migrants Deal
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has cornered European countries into accepting millions of Syrians, among which extremists, by giving them free access across his country, Turkish parliament member and Kurdish activist Osman Baydemir told reporters.

"Erdogan trapped Europe by directing refugees to continue [onto European nations]," Baydemir stated on Wednesday.

Baydemir is visiting Washington to meet with US Department of State officials and members of the Congress in order to persuade them to pressure Ankara so as to renew peace talks with Kurdish political parties.

Baydemir pointed out that Erdogan was passing on the burden of caring for and absorbing millions of refugees to European nations.

More than 1.83 million illegal border crossings were detected by the EU border agency Frontex in 2015.

Turkey serves as a major route for migrants fleeing crisis-torn countries in the Middle East to enter Europe via Greece before continuing through Macedonia and the rest of the Balkans to central Europe.
