The diplomats agreed to ensure the pause in intra-Syrian talks, announced by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Wednesday until February 25, would be "as short as possible."
"At the same time, Russia expressed concern with unacceptable preconditions set by certain members of the Syrian opposition to establish a sustainable negotiation process with the government of the Syrian Arab Republic," the ministry said.
Lavrov called on Kerry and US allies to "remain firmly committed" to all provisions set out by the UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which reaffirms the goals of previous agreements to promote the political settlement of the Syrian conflict.
