The upper house of the Russian parliament and the Israeli legislature struck a deal to develop inter-parliamentary cooperation, signed by Israeli Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko on Wednesday.

JERUSALEM (Sputnik) – Matvienko leads the Russian Federation Council delegation that began its official visit to Israel on Tuesday.

"Russian-Israeli ties are developing dynamically and constructively in all areas. Our current visit is aimed at further strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and relations," Matvienko said.

She added that the signed agreement created a legal framework to further deepen cooperation between the two legislatures.

As part of the agreement, Russian and Israeli lawmakers will consult on international issues of mutual interest, as well as promote cooperation between mutual delegations at international parliamentary organizations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Federation Council and the Knesset additionally agreed to exchange delegations, promote the establishment of closer cooperation between committees and commissions, and exchange information on the practice of legislation.
