Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized on Friday Moldova's decision to refuse a number of Russian reporters entry to the country, stressing that any restriction on the freedom of the media was unacceptable.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, crews from three Russian TV channels, namely the All-Russian Television and Radio Network (VGTRK), Life News and REN TV, who were set to cover the ongoing protests in Chisinau, were denied entry to Moldova.

"We can assess it only in a very negative way, because, of course, any restrictions on freedom of speech, on the work of the media, especially on the Russian media, we consider unacceptable," Peskov told reporters.

He added that similar incidents had previously taken place in Ukraine and stressed that Moscow hoped that such a trend would not be repeated in Moldova.

Protests erupted in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau on Wednesday, with the opposition demanding the parliament's dissolution and snap elections amid the appointment of Pavel Filip from the Democratic Party as the new prime minister.
