International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano is expected to visit Iran on January 17 to meet country's leadership, IAEA said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, IAEA confirmed Iran's compliance with the agreement on country's nuclear program and implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) came into effect.

"IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano travels to Tehran on Sunday for meetings with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Hassan Rouhani, and Vice-President and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Dr Ali Akbar Salehi," the statement said on Saturday.

The statement added that the meetings were expected to focus on the IAEA’s role in verifying and monitoring Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On July 14, Iran and a group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, signed an historic deal to guarantee the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
