    The top diplomats of Russia and Japan exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida spoke on the phone Wednesday, discussing North Korea's recently announced hydrogen bomb test, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

    "The sides exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the security situation in Northeast Asia as a whole after North Korea's nuclear test announcement," the ministry said in a statement.

    Lavrov and Kishida also talked about bilateral Russian-Japanese issues, including the schedule for future political contacts. The conversation was initiated by Tokyo.
