TOKYO (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Pyongyang announced it had tested a hydrogen bomb. The incident has received widespread international condemnation. The UN Security Council at an emergency session condemned the nuclear test and announced it would begin work on further significant measures against North Korea in a new resolution.
"There are different views, including economic sanctions, ban on the movement of people and finance," Suga said at a press conference.
North Korea declared itself a nuclear power in 2005 and conducted a series of underground nuclear weapon tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013. Pyongyang's nuclear program has caused deep concern of the international community and prompted the UN Security Council to slap a series of sanctions against the country.
The UN resolutions 1718 and 1814 urge Pyongyang to refrain from nuclear tests and reengage in talks on the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
