Moscow welcomes the adoption of the first-ever Chinese law on fighting terrorism and hopes that it will contribute to further strengthening Russian-Chinese counter-terrorism cooperation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The legislation adopted last week significantly strengthens the exchange of information between the Chinese authorities and security services and tightens cybersecurity measures as well as transport checks and border controls.

"We express our confidence that the adoption of this legal act will further strengthen Russian-Chinese cooperation in counter-terrorism within the privileged strategic partnership between our two countries," the Russian ministry said in reference to the Chinese decision.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Moscow and Beijing are in favor of preserving the central coordinating role of the UN in global anti-terrorism efforts, which they believe should create a broad anti-terrorist coalition against the Daesh (Islamic State) militant group, outlawed in many countries including Russia.

Moscow underscored that Russia and China do not only objectively assess the terror threat situation in the world, but also demonstrate their readiness to take joint measures to change it.
