Moscow and London understand the necessity to continue cooperation on major security and foreign policy challenges despite any existing differences in approaches, Minister for Europe at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office David Lidington said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, Lidington held a meeting with Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov in Moscow.

"Deputy Foreign Minister Titov and I had a constructive discussion on the UK-Russia bilateral relationship… [We] agreed that despite our differences we needed to continue to work together on key security and foreign policy issues," Lidington was quoted as saying in a statement on UK Foreign Office website.

The sides also welcomed the expanding cultural and people-to-people ties between the countries and expressed hope for a successful 2016 Cross-Year of Language and Literature.
