The French right-wing National Front's (FN) victory in the opening round of the regional elections is an inevitable result of the party's growing popularity, FN's Vice President for social affairs and member of European Parliament told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW, Alexander Mosesov (Sputnik) — Marine Le Pen's anti-immigration, eurosceptic party looks set to take over the running of four councils in France after winning 28 percent of the vote on Sunday. The second tour of these elections are to be held on December 13.

"This is a result of the unstoppable rise of the National Front and a real dynamic of the latest several years," Marie-Christine Arnautu said.

The second round of the regional elections in France is scheduled for Sunday, December 13. A FN victory could be used as a launchpad for Le Pen's presidential bid in 2017.

The National Front calls for an electoral mobilization ahead of the second tour of the regional election in France, Marie-Christine Arnautu added.

"We are delighted of course but we call for a mobilization on December 13. Not one voice should go to anyone other than candidates from FN, facing the sickening electoral kitchen offered by 'Republicans' (which are republicans only in their name) and the PS [Socialist Party] and their contempt for voters," Arnautu said, commenting on the results of the vote.

Former President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose The Republicans party polled second in the election, has rejected the prospect of teaming up with FN.

Third-place Socialist Party has announced it will withdraw its candidates from two key regions in hopes of deferring the votes from FN to a candidate from The Republicans.
