Armenian foreign ministry’s press service said that Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Monday will announce the official start of talks on a new comprehensive political and economic agreement between the bloc and Yerevan.

YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Monday will announce the official start of talks on a new comprehensive political and economic agreement between the bloc and Yerevan, Armenian foreign ministry’s press service said.

"On the same day, Nalbandian will hold a meeting with Mogherini, after which they will make a statement to the press," the press service said Sunday.

In October, the European Union authorized the European Commission to launch negotiations with Yerevan on a new legal basis for relations that would replace an Association Agreement that the sides nearly finalized in 2013.

In September 2013, Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian precluded the signing of that agreement, announcing instead that he would make his country part of the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
