Polls opened in France, as the nation is set to vote in the first round of regional elections on Sunday, which is the first electoral challenge since the deadly Paris attacks last month.

PARIS (Sputnik) — The far-right party National Front and the centre-right Les Republicains party are expected to win around 30 percent of votes each, while President Francois Hollande's Socialist Party is only supported by 22 percent of voters, according to opinion polls.

Marin Le Pen’s anti-immigration, anti-EU party National Front, will lead the first round of votes in six out of 13 regions, according to a survey by Ipsos polling institute.

Some 44 million people are eligible to vote in the country.
