UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, Power’s Russian counterpart Vitaly Churkin said that Moscow was in talks with the UN Security Council members on the draft resolution on implementation of an earlier resolution on curbing the financing of the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) militant group. According to Churkin, Moscow was not content with the implementation of the earlier resolution on the issue.
"Much of the Russian ISIL effort is focused on something that we’re also focused on, which is financing and the need to halt ISIL’s ability to access funds whether through oil sales, or through moving money through the international financial system. So we have a shared objective there, and from a shared objective hope springs eternal," Power told a briefing.
Russia, having outlawed the Daesh and designated it as a terrorist group, has repeatedly called on the UN Security Council to determine who was buying oil from the militants. Syria has repeatedly accused Turkey of funding the Daesh.
