WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the current situation in Syria and the fight against the Islamic State (ISIL) during their meeting in Jerusalem on Tuesday, State Department spokesperson John Kirby said in a press release.
“Secretary Kerry and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed bilateral and regional security issues, with a focus on Syria and Daesh [Islamic State],” Kirby stated on Tuesday.
The two leaders also discussed further steps to stop the violence in Jerusalem, Israel and the West Bank.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011. The country’s government is fighting a number of opposition forces, as well as radical Islamist militant organizations, including the Nusra Front and Islamic State.
